West Valley AJROTC defeats Fort Bend County 4-H

West Valley AJROTC defeated Fort Bend County 4-H 1529.9 to 1428.8 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. West Valley AJROTC finishes the regular season in first place overall and first place within their 'Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 7 - 0 record. West Valley AJROTC was led by, Samantha Lamb who shot a 384.6. The remaining contributing members were Angelina Gutierrez, Ayanna Solis-Torrico, and Dakotah Goodlake. West Valley AJROTC is from Yakima, Wa, and is coached by 1SG Jeff Parks.

Fort Bend County 4-H finished the season with a 2 - 5 record. They finishes the regular season in seventh place overall and second place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Fort Bend County 4-H was led by, Mackenzie Pruden who shot a 388.1. The remaining contributing members were Melody Juarez, Nathan Rabel, and Douglas Carney. Fort Bend County 4-H is from Fulshear, TX, and is coached by Keith Pruden.

Both teams advance to their respective conference title games. West Valley ARJTOC will take on SGT Eugene Ashley NJROTC for the JROTC Conference Title. Fort Bend County 4-H will take on Lake Houston 4-H for the Junior Rifle Club title. The conference title games start December 2nd.

These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Precision Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now. Followed by a single game conference title game for the top two teams in the JROTC and Junior Rifle Club divisions.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is almost identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
